Usage Instructions

  • Station Search

There are two method to search for stations, use of auto suggest and search query submission.

    Autosuggest Name

If the name* of the station is known, the simplest method to add a station to the list would be to commence typing the name of the station and click the name on the autosuggest list (NB: autosuggest presents a maximum of 10 stations, listed in the ascending order). Example 1. Desired station ABC News Radio. Typing 'abc n' produces the result below.

You can also narrow search results by selecting values in the dropdown boxes. Example 2. Desired station ABC News Radio. Select 'National' in 'State' dropdown box. Typing 'a' in the 'Name' text input produces results that include ABC New Radio.

*Station name in our database is generally the most commonly used name. Alternative names may not be recognised by the search mechanism.

    Search Query

Search query submission is conducted by clicking the 'Search' button. The results depend on the values of the text input and dropdown boxes. With default settings, no value in the 'Name' text input and 'any' in all dropdown boxes, a search would produce all available stations. You could browse through the large list and add what you want to your Station List. But often it is more desirable to narrow the list to a manageable size or it may be a case where you only want stations from a specific category. Example 3. If you want Victorian stations that play rock music, select 'VIC' from 'State' dropdown list and 'Rock' from 'Genre' list and then click 'Search' button.

If the specification of your search did not match the parameters of a single station the search result will be empty.

  • Why is it that when a listed station is clicked the media player appears, but there's no sound ?

First you should allow sufficient time for the media player to connect to the radio server (analogous to radio frequency) and initiate streaming the audible content to your PC. Depending in your internet speed (and other factors) the process takes only a few seconds. If the designated audio player (Window Media Player or flash player) functions as intended, the device itself may indicate as to the status of the audio stream. Terms such as stream unavailable, stream not found, error etc.. suggests that the audio stream is not being transmitted to the media player. Likely due to the internet stream being unavailable for period of time or moved to another location (analogous to a frequency change). We strive to ensure that the settings of the listed stations are up-to-date. But if a particular station failed to produce sound for a prolonged period please contact us so we can update the station settings.

Another reason for the issue stems from the browser inhibiting the devices attempt to access and play the audio stream. Most browsers allow audio streaming by default. Otherwise, to allow the media device to play streamed audio you need to manually change the relevant setting in your browser.

  • Sound from the audio stream is patchy, stops and starts often. Why ?

Disrupted audio streaming is generally due to a slow internet connection or your PCs inability to process the audio stream at the required rate. It is also possible that the radio broadcast stream is error prone. Latter issue is generally temporary, often resolved given sufficient time. If the problem last for significant period of time do not hesitate to contact us and we will attempt resolve the issue.
